Terrible ER. My 89 yr mother waited almost 6 hrs before Dr even looked at her. Came in ambulance.l due to pain and vomiting. I had her recent medical history and knew what was wrong but couldn't even talk to a nurse or doc for over 3 hrs. They had totally different symptoms written down. Staff and nurses in waiting area are rude and incompetent. At one point a nurse called her name so I went with her. Took me to an empty room and then said she thought I was her and she didn't know where she even was. Finally sent home after 8 hrs.

Also saw a teenager in waiting room, vomiting green stuff and crying in pain for hrs. Triage told her mom it was probably appendicitis then stuck her back in waiting area. I admit I yelled at a couple of nurses to please help the poor kid out. Some one finally took her but wouldn't let her mother in. When my mom was finally seen, the kid was in the hall alone on a stretcher.

Wish I could give zero stars

1. The PA that I saw in the ER was kind, pleasant and knowledgeable. He will make a great Department head.
2. X-ray tech was excellent.
3. Triage took basic in a timely fashion after arrival as well as the receptionist
4. Only complaint I have is length between triage and actually being seen.
But I felt really sorry for the 98 year female sat 5 hours to see doctor. Someone had dropped her there. Would have really hurt to with age to the head of the line so she could go home and eat.
And finally, my husband went to the ER vending machine and saw NO prices for the snacks/drinks so he decided to put credit card in but never received a receipt: so apparently the NO HIDDEN cost rule is not applied here?

An absolute disgrace to the medical profession. I question the credentials of any employee who willingly associates with this embarrassment of an emergency room.

My wife had a cardiac ablation from a very capable doctor at this hospital only to receive zero aftercare assistance when she started experiencing complications. The on call doctor hid behind an administrator and refused to discuss side effects even through this third party, “just call your GP.” Sorry chump, your number is on the discharge instructions. Upon checking into the ER your staff laughed when my wife inquired about the wait time… Two days after heart surgery and exhibiting side effects warranting medical treatment per your discharge instructions, but that’s a joke?! Cardiac patients are waiting upwards of five hours in your ER.

One gentlemen had a pulmonary embolism the week before and reported with new chest pain, but your incompetent staff had him waiting for five hours? By the way, he is 92 years old. What’s wrong with your staff? How is that acceptable when “every second counts,” your slogan? Guess that Christmas party was more important? Thats right, your patients in distress witnessed the festivities.

We ended up leaving after waiting two hours. The ER in Newport saw her within an hour. She was discharged within three after labs, an EKG, and CT scan to rule out a potential life threatening situation (blood clots in her brain) per her symptoms. Medication was required. Left up to Charlton, if the symptoms were not just indicative of blood clots, she could have deteriorated while staff laughed and ate cake.

On November 20th, we took our son to Charlton because he needed to be seen after being discharged from the hospital in California. We brought him back to MA because he had no one to care for him back there. We had unsuccessfully tried to get an appointment with a doctor and were told that appointments were booking into January. His abdomen and legs were so swollen that we could not put on his socks and shoes. His short term memory was shot and he was acting erratically. After waiting five hours in the waiting room, the doctor dismissed him not treating him or his condition. For that reason, we had to fly him back to California where he was immediately admitted for his acute liver failure. His electrolytes were completely off, something that should have shown up in the blood work that was done but was not discussed with us. Something needs to be done so that patients who need medical attention are not turned away because they do not have medical insurance in this state. I am so disappointed in what had been up to now a credible hospital.

uncaring rude nurses, HIPPA violations, patients left in the crowded waiting room for hours. improper mask use by some staff. during my 6 hour wait I witnessed 6 people give up and leave. An elderly woman that was brought in by ambulance and was in her wheelchair for 8 hours eventually lost conciseness, as her son informed the nurse she yelled at him to calm down and wheeled her away to a bed. no code or rapid response was called! I eventually left without seeing a doctor. something I have never done and never thought I would do. this ER is beyond broken and the staff should be ashamed.
