Where do I begin? Do not seek treatment. I went for treatment. I figured the Uconn name and Farmington I would get great care. It was horrible. I will never go again. I had the coldest unfriendly arrogant ER doctor who was not only like that to me but others. I was thrown on a gurney the whole time. Over 6 hours not even offered a glass of water. One nurse gave me a blanket and so did volunteer. Nurses were making inappropriate comments about staff how they were sick of a patient that they were too dramatic can't wait for them to leave.
Dr. was put off because he stated it was an ER and basically my symptoms weren't catastrophic and I was wasting his time. He said similar thing to another patient. A patient was violently throwing up no curtain over her she was clearly seriously ill. I took a urine sample bathroom was disgusting. Black pubic hairs were all over sink. Floor look like it hadn't been cleaned in days. I was so grossed out I took my urine sample and used antibacterial soap dispenser outside. I saw many cleaning people not sure why bathroom was allowed to look like that. Looked very dirty. Staff was just hanging out like I said no one ever asked if I would like a glass of water. Took some tests was dismissed said again not an emergency wasn't life threatening I can't be helped. Left in pain and feeling defeated. Dr. Needs to have a way better bedside manner and have some more compassion for patients. Also when I had questions about my results he had an attitude like how dare I question him I was bothering him. It was a dump. Last time I ever go there again.

I am a healthcare professional and truly this is one of the most disappointing experiences I have ever seen. I took a family member to the ER after being referred there by another provider because of severe abdominal pain. We waited over an hour for a room, over 2 hours for the needed cat scan, over an hour for the diagnosis and over 12 HOURS FOR THE "urgent surgery"
This entire time my relative had not eaten for over 20 hours and they still kept her npo when they didn't have a time for the surgery. They ignored her need for pain medication and communication between surgical staff, nurses on the floor, and us as the family was non existent. Truly the only reason they even did the emergent surgery is because we demanded to fill out an AMA (leaving against medical advice), and an ROI for the cat scan so we could go to HH.
All of a sudden now they have a time for the surgery after leaving my relative waiting for over 12 hours in pain.
After the surgery she was suppose to be in recovery for an hour, after almost 2 hours I asked the nurse in shift if they could tell me if she was still in recovery and they didn't know. This is the patient you've assumed care for and you don't know where they are? You don't know who would know where they are? Like investigate!
The only reason this place even gets 2 stars is because it's neat, and the rooms in the surgical floors ( NOT THE ED) HAVE PRIVACY.
I'm not frustrated that the surgery was pushed back my relative was stable in frustrated that you didn't communicate that the surgery was pushed back. If we had known this we would've gone home and come back but of course they wanted to charge insurance for the overnight stay that was a waste of time.

Since that was a lot of negativity, the nurses and medical assistants we interacted with were kind and tried their best.

But if you want to come to this place just be aware it's not all its penned out to be.

This happened a while ago.. 2021
I went in because my faves was 104.2. i was in terrible pain. my joints were being attacked by something. shoulders, knees, ankles, elbows, my hands were swollen.. i basically couldn’t move or walk. i couldn’t even dress myself! or use the bathroom without help being seated.

So i decided to go to the ER.
When i arrived my boyfriend at the time wasn’t allowed in because ya know.. covid.

so i get in there and i asked the nurse to help me take my sweatshirt off. i said “ would you be able to help me? i am in so much pain.. but i just have to go slow..”
this NURSE said “you’re just going to have to grin and bare it. and she PULLED SO HARD AND FAST.. i bursted into tears. the nurse kept pulling and i said “please stop” still crying. she then walked out of the room slamming the door.

so i’m crying texting my boyfriend and im about to leave. THEN the doctor comes in. he said in the rudest way possible “why are you crying”
i said “that nurse ripped off my sweatshirt and im in so much pain i dont want her back in here! get me out of here! you all are terrible people!” and then he said “what can i do to help” (still a rude jerk)
i replied with “i just want some help because im in so much pain!” he said “ill give you morphine” i said “i dont want morphine!” he said “you’re not going to get addicted to it” i said “i get nauseous and throw up” and he said “let’s see how it works.”
i should have got up and walked out then and there….

anyway long story short i went to two other hospitals with wonderful hospitality and they still couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. SINCE THAT NURSE DID THAT TO ME EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE MY SHOULDER FLARES UP AND IM MOT ABLE TO USE IT!!!! NEVER GO HERE.

DO NOT EVER GO TO THIS ER. My 99 year old mother fell and broke her arm. Trusting the UConn name she went there and the care was none existent. Over the course of two hours I requested a commode for her to pee and while I was told they would bring one it was 2.5 hours later so of course when she stood up she started to pee. The nurse’s aide was nasty blaming my mother. Since she only had a broken arm they did not admit her and in fact kicked her out at 11:30 at night. No one even offered to help get her to the car with a wheel chair. My brother had to keep asking before they begrudgingly helped him. If I could give zero stars I would. The one star is for Dr Fran from ortho.

It has now been over two months since my mother fell. After the horrible night at UConn ED we took her to another hospital where they did an extensive exam and found that not only had she fractured her arm, she also fractured her pelvis in two places. UConn never even checked that.

I would love to be able to say they were incompetent but I don’t think that’s it at all, rather I think they were totally indifferent to my mother due to her age.

I contacted UConn directly regarding this incident and was told they would investigate and get back to me in thirty days. I’ve heard nothing and it’s been over sixty days. I will be following up with the state to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else. Those employees should be ashamed.

Took forever to discharge me like 4 hours however it's an amazing hospital, very clean (we think) great staff, they are attentive and kind but the food is meh. I highly recommend going here especially over other hospitals around like Charlotte Hungingford which should be shutdown, condemned and demolished.

I am writing this review from a very honest place since I was worried after reading all the negative reviews here. I actually had a great and welcoming experience at UConn's Health Emergency room. All the staff worked so promptly and were soo kind to me. The waiting time was not too long, I went later in the afternoon around 6 and was probably admitted after an hour and a half. Yes, the waiting for all the exams and feedback took a while, probably was there for 4h but I was already expecting this due to past experiences in ER rooms. The nursey who took care of me the whole evening was so amazing! I will be forever appreciative of his kindness with me. I was also shaking from anxiety and pain, and everyone brought me blankets and were checking to see if I was warm. Foremost, my situation didn't require much examination, I needed to do an ultrasound in extreme pain and discomfort, but the lady made her best even though she needed to put pressure on the area. Again, I am very satisfied with this experience, I know it doesn't speak for everyone, but so far, I am glad I went there even after reading all the reviews here. Big thanks to Marc B. medical student who was shadowing the practioners on that evening.

We have visited UCONN ER multiple times with different family members and each time we have been treated with respect, kindness and compassion. The facility is always clean and tidy, including the bathrooms. The wait time is a fraction of other ER’s. Compared to other ER’s in the area, we will choose UCONN hands down every time. Everyone we have encountered, especially Nick, have been professional, knowledgeable and very kind and thoughtful, not only to us, but to others. We can’t thank you all enough for all you do!!
